I’m a firm believer that the right accessories can make an outfit. Even if your look is fairly simple, a great handbag, watch or shoes can add just the right amount of interest. When I’m running around shopping for clients, I need to be comfortable, yet stylish. I often opt for a feminine blouse like this one from BGBG and denim because they are both classics that never go out of style.
A killer handbag is also a must for me. I need a style that is big enough to hold all of my essentials and versatile enough to work suit an assortment of looks. This Henry Wear “Penelope” tote is just the right size and goes with so many different outfits! I love how the rich colors compliments the many jewel tones in my wardrobe. It’s also the perfect shape for a laptop and notebook, which is ideal for meetings.
Along with my bag, I always have to have a watch on me during the week. A good watch is fashionable and functional and stands the test of time (literally). Lately, I’ve been obsessing over my Aibi watch. It is just so understated and chic. The black leather band is so soft that I often forget I have a watch on at all! The gold hardware matches my every day jewels and the white face looks is clean and minimalistic.
I’ve never shied away from color in my wardrobe. There is just something about wearing a pop of color that makes me happy and always gets me lots compliments. However, I’ve been on a neutral color palette kick lately. They are super popular right now and look so rich and stylish. Lots of people want to add more muted tones into their wardrobes, but have no idea how to wear them without looking washed out. So I recently shot this neural inspired look to serve as inspiration!
The key to rocking neutrals is to incorporate textures into your outfit. I did this by throwing on my Joie faux fur vest in cream with a silk paisley top because the toughness of the vest works well with the soft look of the blouse. I chose my favorite pair of Rag and Bone jeans for this look instead of a traditional denim. I just really dig the light army green color and find myself wearing them with everything!

I’ve been a fan of Sassoon for years. I just love the history and heritage of the company. I’ve also been fascinated with Sassoon himself for as long as I can remember because he really was the tastemaker for hair in his day. This afternoon, I headed over to the Sassoon salon in South Coast Plaza for a hair update by the the salon’s Creative Director, Edward. The salon is modern, stylish and really serene. I was greeted by the stylish ladies at the reception desk and then whisked away to Edward’s chair. He began by asking me about my hair–what I like, what I don’t like, what products I use, etc. We decided we would do a little trim to freshen up the ends and add some layers into my existing cut.
We started with a shampoo (which was soooo relaxing!) and a deep conditioning treatment. I just loved the smell and feel of all of the products he used! After my shampoo and conditioning treatment, it was time for Edward to work his magic on my hair. Before he did the blow dry, he applied an essential oil- based product to my ends called Elixir Ultime by Kerastate. It was so light weight, I couldn’t believe it was oil based! Next, he applied a spray by Kerastase that adds volume. After my blowout, he trimmed my fridge, added layers and then styled my hair in wavy curls. I couldn’t have been more happy with the result and am excited to start using all of the products I got to take home!
I will be headed to New York Fashion Week next month to report from backstage at the shows, where the Sassoon team will be creating looks for the runway. Until then, I will leave you with the top ten resolutions for beautiful hair in 2016!
Try a Radiant Refresh – Ring in 2016 with a new signature style by simply adding a side-swept fringe to your classic cut or upgrading your color with a warmer palette. This season’s statement styles call for cool, pared-back hair with effortless shine.
Fashion an Everlasting Blow-Out – If you’ve spent the time creating a beautiful blow-out yourself or paid someone else to do it, the last thing you want is to wake up the next day and it be gone. Edward Tedeschi, Sassoon Creative Director, explains, “prep is paramount and a lightweight mousse will work as a setting lotion, but make sure you comb the product through your hair to achieve an even blow-dry.”
Shine On – Just like our skin, healthy hair gets its strength and shine from a combination of proteins and vitamins. Customized weekly treatments, such as a Sassoon Instant Fusio Dose Treatment by Kerastase, deliver a host of benefits to dry, parched hair – from boosting the vibrancy of your color to preventing future damage and instantly smoothing and strengthening each strand.
Turn Down the Heat– Swap the perfect blow-out and go au natural once a week. Embrace your natural texture by applying a conditioning style cream and air-drying. You will prevent breakage and cuticle damage, while maintaining softness and combating frizz.
Go Glam After the Gym – Slick hair back using your fingers with a dollop of Gel Forte from Sebastian to hold the hair in place. Apply the product to the roots of your hair leaving out the ends. To achieve an even sleeker look, comb the gel through to tame any strays and let the hair air-dry. For a dryer texturized look, simply apply the product but blow dry the hair back and away from the face. Use bobby pins to secure the style in place and ensure longevity of the look.
Trim Down – Forward book your salon appointments every 5-6 weeks for regular trims and haircuts. You’ll keep your ends healthy and feel forever fresh.
Embrace Hair Oil – Many avoid using hair oils for fear they leave hair looking & feeling greasy. The new generation of hair oils is lightweight and nourishing. Embrace hair oils this winter and try Davines OI Oil or Oil Non-Oil.
Treat Yourself –In between appointments, keep hair shiny and healthy with an at-home deep-conditioning masque treatment personalized for your hair type.
Try a Cool Rinse – In the same way that central heating affects hair, washing it in hot water can also dry locks out, so opt for a warm temperature instead. “Rinsing your hair in cool water adds extra shine and locks in vital moisture,” says Edward.
Warm Up – Blend warmer color palettes to support and enhance shine this season. “From rich mocha for brunettes, deep ruby for redheads, and soft, light hues for blondes, warmer tones keep you from looking washed out in the winter and give your skin a boost of radiance,” says Adriana Harrison, Costa Mesa’s Color Director.
Sassoon Salon Costa Mesa is located at South Coast Plaza, 3333 Bristol Street, Suite 1606, CA 92626.
