Red Carpet Watch: 2012 Golden Globes

This year’s Golden Globe fashions were not so much about one specific trend as much as it was about celebrating individualism. It was fitting because this year’s nominees were as unique and different as the characters they portrayed. Still, you could spot certain color trends that were consistent between the attendees. Take Kate Winslet and Claire Danes instance, looking demure and still fashion forward in black and white.

I also loved the statuesque Charlize Theron in nude Dior and the up-in-coming Jessica Chastain, in Givenchy Haute Couture. Young Hollywood was also out in full force making statements all their own. We had the aloof yet undeniably stunning Rooney Mara (on whom I have a slight girl crush) in a black Nina Ricci gown. Fashion Plate Emma Stone also made an entrance is a deep plum Lanvin.

Funny girl Zooey Deschanel and Indie star Evan Rachel Wood took ques from the peacock in emerald green and gold frocks. Bridesmaids star, Kristen Wiig looked surprising chic in 1970′s inspired Bill Blass and a new brunette do. I’m not usually a fan of Jessica Biel’s style choices, but this time she really got it right in a long-sleeve Elie Saab.

In the Press: Guy and Eva Catalog

Last year, I was lucky enough to be apart of the amazing team at Guy and Eva. They have a fashionable line of jewelry for amazing prices. When they asked me to style their Holiday 2011 photo-shoot, I was super excited! Their collection featured deep jewel tones to compliment the rich colored stones in their necklaces and bracelets. The Guy and Eva Team were awesome, fun and very professional. The models were a blast to work with as well, and were huge sports with all of the location and wardrobe changes.

Check out the their catalog here and see the video below. I would also like to thank my amazing assistant, Lauren Weightman! I couldn’t have done it without you girl.

Beauty Box: Olay Professional Pro-X Advanced Cleansing System

For those of you that think that the Clarisonic is a bit out of your price range, you’re in luck. Olay has been giving us high-tech skin care at – prices for decades now. Their Professional Pro-X Advanced Cleansing System is no exception.

Being the beauty buff that I consider myself to be, I had to run out to my nearest CVS as soon as I saw the ad for the brush. Much to my dismay they were sold out and they  had to order it for me. Once I got my hands on it, I went home right away to give it a try.

To my surprise, I noticed an instant “glow” to my skin, even after the first use. After weeks and now months of using it religiously day and night, my skin has improved dramatically. Sun spots are less visible, my pores are smaller and my breakouts have virtually disappeared.

I really cannot recommend this product enough and wouldn’t imagine going without it! I love to use it with my Origins White Tea Cleanser and follow with my favorite moisture cream. I mean who can beat gorgeous skin for a gorgeous price? This brush is only $30.

New Year, New You Vol. 2

A new year brings new possibilities of re-inventing yourself and seeing what you can do to be the best version of yourself. It’s always interesting to look back and see how many new people you’ve met, places you’ve seen and who you’re becoming. Personal style is just one of the many elements of self-improvement that is always evolving. Think about it. You might never even think of wearing what you did last year, just as you might not ever wear what you’re wearing right now ever again.

It’s time to make 2012 your most stylish year yet. How you ask? By taking fashion by the horns and really looking at what works for you. I have listed my top 5 “style resolutions” for you to embrace and enjoy. Choose one, choose all, it’s all up to you. My only rule is to be true to yourself. That’s always in fashion.

Out with the old, in with the new. Much to my husbands dismay, I love to throw/give things away. Old decorations, outdated paperwork and of course clothing that no longer works for me. I simply don’t like having things around that don’t serve me in the place I am right now. I always advise my clients to do the same when it comes to their own closets. You must sort through what is working for you and what isn’t. Bring in a friend (or professional) to help and push you along in the process. What’s even better, you can feel good about donating your clothing to your favorite charity.

Get some visual stimulation. One of my favorite things is when I receive my monthly dose of VOGUE magazine. It’s a gift I give to myself that brings me all kinds of joy. Looking at what’s going on in my industry is a crucial part of my job, but it’s also something I look forward to. I would recommend getting a subscription to one of your favorite fashion magazines or even looking at a few new fashion blogs to get inspired. I always look forward to seeing what people are wearing and how to improve my own sense of style.

Get a beauty boost. A new year also means it’s time for a new beauty routine. Every year I update my beauty wardrobe. This includes getting rid of expired products I no longer use and hunting for new colors or scents that make me feel pretty. Go to your favorite department store and make friends with the gal at your favorite beauty line. She’s there to show you the tricks of the trade and what will look best on you for the season.

Feel hot working out. Everyone seems to suddenly be on a diet after January 1st, but a great way to make your new routine stick is to look good while doing it. You’ll never see me working out in sweats and an over-sized tee. Forever21 has a stylish collection of active wear that you won’t feel guilty about sporting while getting your sweat on. Wearing fun colors and fitted clothing while exercising is a great way to motivate yourself and feel good about the body you have now. Plus, you never know when you’ll meet another hottie at the gym!

Personalize your style. Maybe your biggest New Year’s resolution is to simply find your own sense of personal style. If that’s the case, now has never been a better time. To help you make it happen I have created my {Style-Setter Report} to get you started. It’s your weekly dose of fashion and beauty tips to help you create and own a sense of personal style. Sign up in the box to the left of the screen and you’ll get my Chic for Cheap guide for free! I can’t think of a better way to start off 2012.

What’s In: Smoking Flats

Hugh Hefner’s not the only one sporting smoking slippers these days. Now known as “Smoking Flats”, theses old school kicks have been given a new twist. Like most trends, you can score a pair from high-end designers, like Christian Louboutin or less pricing brands like Steve Madden.

I love to wear mine with skinny jeans and an over-sized silk blouse to add a masculine touch. Smoking flats come in a variety of different colors and textures. Make your flats the focal point by dressing down with your clothing. They will be the exclamation point to any outfit!

Ask Sophie Mae: How to Update Your Office Style

“Dear Sophie Mae, how can I make my office attire more stylish?”

Dearest Office Fashionista,

You don’t have to wear your black suit jacket and patent pumps everyday to look professional and polished. Today’s modern working woman dresses for success in style. I have outlined three major trends that are making their way into every woman’s working wardrobe.

Add Some Color

{Adding a pop of color to your jacket and skirt combo is a great way to take your look from drab to fab. I love the texture of the stripes popping out from behind the blazer and the plum handbag is the perfect statement piece.}

1970's flair

{The 1970′s are back in a major way this season. Wide-leg trousers and chunky platforms look surprisingly current for work. Look for lace tops and skirts or pants in luxury fabrics to complete the look.}

Animal Print Top

{I consider animal print to be a classic that will never go out of style. Play with a fun leopard print top with a black pant for the office. Not feeling overly adventurous? Try adding just a hint of animal print into your look with a belt or a handbag.}

100 Years of Style

LOVE this video, just had to share.

Editorial Inspiration: Textures

This editorial inspiration comes from Elle Mexico. I can’t get enough of the velvet, silk and of course, those glittery Miu Miu booties.

Costume International

You could have guessed the fashion industry’s favorite holiday without me posting these photos from VOGUE.com, but I thought they may serve as a good costume inspiration! I think Micheal Kors makes a pretty good mariachi, no?

Have a safe and stylish Halloween!
