Stella and Dot Giveaway

Last year, one of my dearest clients asked me if I would write a blog post to raise awareness for Congenital Heart Disease. She recently emailed me to ask if I would create a follow up post just in time for February, which is National Heart Month. I thought it would be fun to raise awareness in style! That’s why I’ve partnered with Stella and Dot jewelry to giveaway this gorgeous statement necklace. It’s not only super chic, but it is also appropriately named the “Mae”!

Here’s how to win: share this post on your Facebook timeline and you’ll be automatically entered into a drawing. The winner will be announced on Valentine’s Day (February 14th)! Good Luck Style-Setters!

What to Wear to a Superbowl Party

After a super successful day of shopping with clients, I sat down at my Mac  and noticed that Facebook and Twitter were ablaze with one thing – the Super Bowl. Though I may not be a football fanatic, I have been invited to quite a few Super Bowl parties in my day. You want to look cute, but still be comfortable at the same time (bring on the Lays potato chips!). I’ve put together three stylish outfit ideas that you can wear to any Super Bowl party.

{ How cute is this graphic tee? I love it because it’s comfortable, yet still makes a statement. I’ve paired these light washed jeans, t-shirt and black leather jacket with a Chanel bag to add a little luxury to the look. This outfit will work perfectly for a house party or viewing at the pub. }

{ The green color of this dress is super on trend for the season and is also very figure flattering. I choose leopard flats and a statement handbag to pull the look together. This outfit would work perfectly  for a Super Bowl party at a hotel or lounge. Very football chic! }

{ This look is part preppy, part hipster. The army green jeans are super versatile and can be worn a lot of different ways. I’ve paired them with a classic stripped top and colorful boyfriend cardigan. Don’t be afraid to mix brown and black accessories and remember that colors don’t always have to match,but simply compliment each other. }

What to Wear to a Job Interview

Hi Sophie Mae!

I have a major job interview coming up and have no idea what to wear! I know I am super qualified for the job, but I feel stressed because I don’t know how to dress. Can you give me a few ideas that will make me look professional, but also show off my personal style?

Dear Woman of the World,

First of all, congrats on your interview! Whenever I am advising my clients on what to wear for a interview, I always like to get more information on what the job description entails. Once I know a little more about the desired position, I can accurately advise on wardrobe options. For instance, if you are going for a job as an art director, you will dress completely different than if you are trying to snag a position as a corporate lawyer. Remember  dressing for the job you want and not the job you currently have, is the key to success when dressing for an interview. With this in mind,  I’ve put together a few outfit ideas for you to consider when dressing for a job interview.

Best of luck!

Interview Outfits

The Marketing Maven: When you’re in a creative field like marketing, you can get away with adding a little edge to your look. I’ve selected the outfit above because it’s sharp and modern, but still professional. Making sure that the items you choose fit properly is my number one tip when dressing for your dream job. No one will take you seriously in poorly fitted items. In contrast, when your items are well-tailored, you will always look great! I love this red draped blouse because it’s the color of confidence and it’s artsy, yet polished at the same time. I’ve included the black blazer to complete the look because it’s pulls the whole look together.

Interview Dress Options

The Sales Genius: I love a dress with  structure for an interview because it’s feminine, yet powerful at the same time. When you’re in a field like sales, showing off your womanly assets is not always a bad thing. However, keeping it professional is key. The color of this dress is muted, but still on trend for the season. I’ve paired it with tights and a classic flat because it’s fashion forward, while practical.

Interview Outfit Ideas
The Executive: When you’re going for what I call a “big girl job” like an executive position, dressing for success is no longer a cliche. The look above looks like you mean business, but is also approachable. I’ve chosen pretty traditional pieces that incorporate unique details. For instance, this classic fitted sweater is instantly updated with the jeweled collar and this black and grey pencil skirt is a new version of an old favorite. Having a statement handbag is also a must for anyone climbing the corporate ladder. This Hermes bag might be pricy, but you would be surprised at the impression it can make!

Sarah Jessica Parker Style Copy Cat

She played our favorite NCY fashionista, who once said, “I like my money where I can see it. In my closet.” Sarah Jessica Parker played single city girl Carrie Bradshaw on Sex and the City for 5 years and taught us everything there is to know about falling in love in style. Carrie’s style was uninhibited, eclectic and oh so fabulous. SJP also shares a similar style aesthetic, sporting colorful dresses with sneakers and Manolo’s with boyfriend jeans. That’s why I loved this all-black look she rocked while attending an event in New York.

I happen to be a huge fan of black on black, so this look was definitely a favorite of mine! The different textures of the pleated skirt, leather jacket and satin heels give the outfit dimension and interest. Want to rock SJP’s look? Here’s how!

Best (and worst) Dressed at the 2014 Golden Globes

Well, it’s that time again. The time for glamorous designer gowns, gorgeous jewels, Armani suits and countless Jennifer Lawrence memes. Award season is in full swing and the 2014 Golden Globe awards got us off to a great start! The red carpet was full of some major hits (hello there, Miss Adams!) and some major misses (sorry, Drew!).

Here’s my recap of the best and worst Red Carpet fashion moments from the 2014 Golden Globe Awards.

Best Dressed:

Amy Adams: I have to say, I’m dying over this look! This color-blocked Valentino Haute Couture gown was just so chic and on trend. The deep V was sexy, yet tastefull and I love how she mixed different jewels to give the dress some edge.

Emma Roberts: Though many critics disagree with me, I was a huge fan of this black Lanvin gown and turquoise earrings. I loved the tailored seams and mermaid hem because it showcased her curves. The only thing I would have changed was the lip color because it made her look a bit washed out.

best dressed at the 2014 golden globes

Lupita Nyong’o: I cannot describe how much I love this look. It may be my favorite of the night! Lupita looked beyond stunning in this red Ralf Lauren. The silhouette is modern and streamlined, which goes to show that simple can be glam too! I also loved her sleek  hair and makeup because it looked fresh and age appropriate.

Olivia Wilde: Best dressed baby bump goes to this gal right here! I mean, what’s not to love about the emerald green Gucci number? Though I’m convinced that Olivia would make a paper bag look like haute couture, she sure knows how to show off her baby bod in style.

best dressed at the 2014 golden globes

Margot Robbie: She held her own opposite  Leo in Wolf of Wall Street, and last night she proved she could hold her own on the red carpet. I’m a sucker for cream gowns at award shows, but this embellished Gucci was something special. The slit shows off just enough and the emerald heels were devine!

Worst Dressed:

Jennifer Lawrence: I know. I’m sorry. I love her too, but this dress looked like a Greek tragedy. The odd black seams cut her body in thirds, while her jewelry was miscast. Sorry J.

worst dressed at the 2014 golden globes

Sandra Bullock: I heard she went through some redic training for her role in Gravity, so why would she hide all of that hard work in this ill-fitting dress? The proportions were all wrong and the colors looks like a Disney princess threw up on her. Not a fan.

worst dressed at the 2014 golden globes

Drew Barrymore: Ok, so maybe she’s  just trying to promote her new makeup line, Flower? Or maybe Monique Lhuillier was having a sale and she thought she would help a girl out? Doubtful, I know, but why else would Drew wear such a horrible getup? Even the matching shoes are bad . . .

worst dressed at the 2014 golden globes

Tina Fey: Don’t get me wrong, I love floral prints. I also love Tina, but boy do I hate this dress. The exaggerated hips make her look bigger than she is and the hair and makeup look dated.
