Red Carpet Watch: The Met Gala 2012

The Metropolitan Museum’s annual Costume Institute Gala is the ultimate red carpet event. This is the night when the world’s most celebrated celebrities, gorgeous models and talented designers come to show off their most over-the-top fashion moments for the world (and Anna Wintour, of course) to see. Designers are escorted by their muses for the evening, all dressed in their latest runway looks.

Unlike the Oscars or the even the Grammy’s, the Met Gala is all about making an unforgetable style statement. There were some hits, note Cate Blanchett in a black feathered Alexander McQueen (I mean, seriously gorge!). And there were some misses, cue Beyonce’s sheer mishap (I mean really people??).

At the end of the day, fashion is about having fun and dressing up. Here are just a few of my favorite looks from the evening.

Cate Blanchett, in Alexander McQueen with Van Cleef & Arpels jewels

Amy Adams, in Giambattista Valli Haute Couture, with Fred Leighton jewels

Ginnifer Goodwin, in Monique Lhuillier, with Brian Atwood shoes

Rooney Mara, in Givenchy Haute Couture

Hanneli Mustaparta, in Calvin Klein Collection

Kate Bosworth, in Prada, with Fred Leighton and Repossi jewels

January Jones, in Atelier Versace, with Cartier jewels

What’s In: Sherbet Hues

Fashion has a new favorite frosty treat: sherbet hues. It all started with  Louis Vuitton latest candy-colored collection featuring eyelet lace and 3D daisy details. High-end department stores and independent boutiques alike took notice and next thing we knew it was lady-like pastel takeover!

Now you can wear your favorite flavors like cool mint, light peach, refreshing blueberry and strawberries and cream. Pastel colored denim has been a huge statement this season and is particularly fresh when paired with an ivory top and gold jewelry. Don’t be afraid to color block these cool tones and mix different textures like strips with solids.

Like most trends, wardrobe isn’t the only place we’re seeing this color trend. Sherbet colored nail polish, lip colors and even hair dyes are making they way on the scene. I love the idea of peach colored digits on a summer’s day!

Beauty Box: Valentino’s Valentina fragrance

Though my heart will always belong to the original Chance by Chanel perfume, every so often there comes a scent that tickles my fancy so much that I just have to have it. Valentina is Valentino’s new fragrance and perfectly exemplifies the timeless romance of the design house. The scent is neatly contained in a rounded bottle, adored with nude color rosettes which pay homage to Mr. Valentino himself. Notes of bergamot, white truffle and cedar fill your nose with pure delight.

The fragrance is available in available in Eau de Parfum form, along with body lotion, shower gel and a delightful body oil. I suggest making a trip to your favorite department store as soon as possible. You will feel like you’ve made a trip to Milan after you’ve got a sweet whiff of this lovely perfume!

Red Carpet Watch: The 2012 Academy Awards

Last year, I was fortunate enough to be apart of E!’s Countdown to the Academy Awards segment and speak from the red carpet about what I would wear to an Oscar after party. I had an amazing time being able to be apart of the festivities. This year has been a whirl-wind of styling new and loyal clients and my wedding styling business has really taken off! Needless to say it was nice to be able to take a night off and simply enjoy the show.

The Oscars never seem to fail us when the rich and famous come out to play and honor their own. Highlights included the return of Billy Crystal, Sasha Baron Cohen showing up as his alter-ego and Angelina’s leg stealing everyone’s thunder. But enough about all of that, let’s get to the good stuff!

Here are a few of my favorite looks of the night:

Emma stone was my favorite look of the night. She always takes risks with her fashion choices on the red carpet and they always seem to pay off. I love the playful bow detail and the color that compliments her ivory skin. Michelle Williams was another favorite of the night in a crimson Louis Vuitton. Her hair looked fresh in her signature pixie cut and the silhouette gave a 1950′s feel.

I wasn’t as big of a fan of Gwyneth’s look as most people were. However, I did appreciate the modern feel she was going for in this white Tom Ford gown. also liked her relaxed up-do and of course her arms look flawless! Rooney Mara was one of those I was super excited to see walk the red carpet. Though her Gievenchy dress was not what I had expected, but she did look very glamorous and I loved her hair and red lip.

Jessica Chastain was one of my favorite beauty looks of the night. Her hair and makeup looked flawless and fresh. Her McQueen gown was a bit aging for my taste, but over all, she looked great. Kristin Wigg hit the mark again in a gold J. Mendel. The detailed bodice was the perfect compliment to the feathered skirt.

Navy blue is one of my favorite colors to see on the red carpet. Leslie Mann wore a stunning jeweled midnight blue Cavalli, which made her starberry locks look oh so chic! Tina Fey donned  a classic navy Herrera gown with black sash and bold earrings.

The Beauty Box: Backstage

With New York Fashion Week at its end, we are left with a glimpse of what we will be wearing this coming fall. We also were able to get an idea of what will be in makeup bags. Take a look at three of my favorite beauty looks from the Gucci, Versace and Fendi runway shows. Remember that these looks should serve as an inspiration for your own makeup and not be taken so literally. Get inspired and get glowing with these new tricks and tips!

The models at the Versace Runway show were a mix between The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and the lead singer of a garage band. I love how makeup artist Pat Mcgrath made the girls look like they had just woke up from a long night and yet still had fresh, dewy skin. I’m also a huge fan of the super short bags and shaggy mane.

Versace Makeup

While Fendi’s Nordic Ice Princess look might not work on your next trip to Costco, the idea of white eyeshadow is right trend. The perfectly shaped eyeliner looks young with the artistic stark nature of the white. The braided hair is also very modern and cool.

FENDI Makeup

One of my favorite accessories is a deep red lip.  The muted beige tones on the face perfectly frame the defined lashes and crimson lips. And the sleek ponytail is a unique way to dress-down the severity the dramatic look.

Style Copy Cat: Emma Stone

What’s not to love about Emma Stone? She’s talented, funny, fashionable and just plain adorable. She’s always looks chic and stunning on the red carpet and on the silver screen. Here she is looking super cool of duty for a day of shopping. I love that she paired her gray jeans with a classic stripped top and worn-in leather jacket. Emma looks calm, cool and effortlessly stylish!

I say we could all learn a thing or two about street style from Miss Stone. Instead of just throwing on jeans and a t-shirt, complete the look with a jacket or cardigan. Also, don’t be shy about mixing neutral colors like navy blue and black.

From the Runway: J.Crew

Jenna Lyon’s has single-handedly transformed J.Crew from a preppy cardigan company to one of the most street savvy trendsetting empires in the world. Tom Mora, the creative force behind J. Crew’s designer label has taken Lyon’s vision to the next level. J.Crew’s 2012 Fall collection was the perfect mixture of texture, print and shapes for today’s modern style-setter. From the skinny ankle pant paired with boyfriend pull-overs to a snake-skin maxi dress accompanied by a menswear hunting coat, it was all about the head to toe look.

Take the J.Crew style for a spin for yourself and don’t be afraid to mix it up. Don’t know what to wear with those printed pants? Try a neon top. Have nowhere to wear that military jacket? Wear it while running errands. Take a fashion chance this season by mixing and matching your favorite pieces to create a look all your own.

Chic for Cheap: Jason Wu + Target

Super retailer Target has brought us some of the best “chic for cheap” designer collections in the industry. From collaborations with designers like Zac Posen and Alexander McQueen, they always seem to be right on the money (no pun intended). This February, they partner with hip new talent, Jason Wu.

The former Robert Rodriguez intern turned high-fashion wonder boy, Wu gained major fashion cred when he designed Michelle Obama’s 2008 inauguration dress. His looks can also be seen on starlets such as Emma Stone and Michelle Williams. His capsule collection is part Gossip Girl, part Mean Girls. I’m loving the flirty separates and charming prints. This one’s sure to be a hit within the style circuit.
