Beauty Box: Oscar Makeup Bags

We’re just a few hours away from Hollywood’s biggest night, the Oscars. And while the stars are getting their beauty sleep, I’m up guessing what will be in their makeup bags tomorrow morning. The nominees for Best Actress include a wide range of talented women of all ages. From 11-year-old, Quvenzhané Wallis,to veteran French Actress, Emmanuelle Riva. Three of my favorite contenders include Jessica Chastain, Naomi Watts, and Jennifer Lawrence. These woman know how to rock a flawless makeup look on the red carpet.

Here’s my idea of what will be in their makeup bags tomorrow. The list includes everything from false lashes to La Mer Serum.

Jessica Chastain

{ While she may not be the only red-head in Hollywood, Jessica Chastain stands out in a crowd. Her piercing eyes, fair skin, and fiery locks set her apart from other starlets, as does her fearless acting chops. }

Naomi Watts

{ Naomi has such a timeless sense of style and loves to have fun with her hair and makeup. She often favors a 1920′s makeup style with deep red lips and flawless skin. She also tends to wear her pulled back in a low or side bun, which perfectly frames her face. }

Jennifer Lawrence

{ Jennifer is known for her young and fresh style. She’s also a beauty camilion who isn’t afraid to take risks. She’s been a blonde, red-head and brunette and always pulls it off. She also knows how to highlight her stunning eyes by using contracting eyeliner and lots of mascara. }

The Beauty Box: Valentine’s Day Makeup

With New York Fashion Week in full swing and seeing is its Valentine’s day tomorrow, I thought I’d do a little Beauty Box post inspired by Diane von Furstenberg’s latest runway show. Makeup artist James Kaliardos gave the models dewy skin, tousled hair and a bold pink lip, which I think is perfect for a Valentine’s Day date.

You can re-create this makeup look by starting with great skin care. Begin by using a great moisturizer like Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer because it will prime the skin for foundation. Next, take a liquid makeup with a dewy finish like Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. Set the foundation with a very sheer powder. I love Laura Mercier’s Loose Setting Powder because it never looks heavy.

Next, apply a matte bronzer to the cheekbones and a little blush to the apples of the cheeks. Trish McEvoy’s Golden Glow Face Color is a bronzer and blush in one that gives you a very natural glow.

Keep the eyes simple by applying my favorite eye shadow primer, Two Faced Shadow Insurance. Next, take a matte eye shadow in a neutral color and apply to the entire lid. MAC has great natural hues that work on all skin tones. Keep your brows simple by taking a wax based brown pencil and gently sweep over the brow. Complete the eye look with a little mascara on the upper lash line.

Prime the lips by sweeping just a little powder over the entire lip. Next, choose the right pink lipstick for your skin tone. If you have an olive tone to your skin, go for a fuchsia color like Bobbi Brown’s Rich Lip Color in Cosmic Raspberry. If you’re pale, try NARS Lipstick in Funny Face because it will add warmth.

Beauty Box: Vamp Lips

Dark lips have made a huge impression on both the runways and the red carpet  this season. It also happens to be one of the easiest ways to look instantly chic! 1920′s darling Clara Bow may have been the one to start the trend, but modern-day starlets like Rooney Mara and Lilly Collins have brought it back.

Vamp lips compliment most all hair colors and look especially fresh on pale skin tones (yay me!). It’s important to keep the rest of your look fairly simple when wearing a bold lip. If you’re a brunette or redhead, try a bronze/brown shadow with lots of mascara. If you’re a blonde, go for a golden eye with a mulberry liner.

Looking for the best shades? My two favorite are MAC’s Lipstick in Dark Side and Armani’s Rouge d’Armani lipstick in 526.

Beauty Box: Pink Hair

Ok, is it just me or is pink hair everywhere?? What once was reserved for out-there pop tarts like Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry has saturated (quite literally) the locks of the masses. Perhaps it all started when Lady Gaga sported a pink bob on the cover of Vogue last year? No, that’s not it because actress Rachel Mcadams had hints of the hue added to her blonde locks a year prior.

No matter where the trend began, it’s definitely hasn’t lost it’s luster. Both the fashion word and celebrities (including Willow Smith!) are embracing it. What do you think of cotton candy hair? Chic or not so much?

Comment on my Facebook Page to let me know if you’d dare to go pink.
