Editorial Inspiration: Kate Moss for Mango 2012

Maybe it’s because I’ve always had a major girl crush on Ms. Moss or perhaps it’s the fitted blazers paired with men’s style trousers that made me swoon over  Mango’s Winter 2012 collection. The Spanish retailer has consistently offered us fashion forward options at great prices and this season is no exception.

One of my favorite pieces is the long-sleeve sequin dress. The shape is just so sexy, yet completely sophisticated at the same time. I’m also a huge sucker for a great jacket, so I naturally gravitated toward the military inspired styles that are so on trend right now.

Editorial Inspiration: Elle Poland

Baby, it’s cold outside! Well, at least if you live outside of California. Elle Poland highlights the military coat trend that’s sure to be a huge hit this winter. Look for structured coats in army green with black leather accents or tweed jackets with structured shoulders. For a fun way to look hot while keeping warm, try pairing your new coat with a fringe mini and tights or belt the look or an hourglass silhouette.

Ask Sophie Mae: What to Wear to an Afternoon Wedding

“Dear Sophie Mae, I just received an invitation to an afternoon wedding and am clueless of what to wear!”

Dear Stylish Wedding Guest,

As a Fashion and Wedding Stylist, I am asked this question all the time! It’s tricky to look fashionable and comfortable without looking like one of the bridesmaids (I’m actually guilty of this one myself!!). With wedding blogs as popular as Starbucks locations, it’s easy to get overwhelmed with the amount of ideas and inspiration out there. Below, I share my ideas for dressing for an afternoon wedding while still staying true to your style!

Backyard Vintage Wedding

{Vintage or DIY weddings are incredibly popular right now (especially in the summer!). I love the idea of  a polka dot printed dress with peep toe heels for the backyard afternoon wedding}

Haute Topic: What to Expect (to wear) When You’re Expecting

While I was out shopping with my mommy-to-be client today, I was shocked to see the lack of fashionable maternity clothes out there. I mean don’t designers know that being pregnant is nothing new? While we did find some great options for my client, I was left with the feeling that being stylish while you’re expecting doesn’t seem to be an easy task.

While not ever having been pregnant myself, I cannot speak from personal experience here. However, I do know a thing or two about clothes and how they should flatter a woman’s body. Many of my clients are either post or pre-baby at the moment and are calling me in desperation with no idea what to wear.

Take a peek at my must-haves for what to expect to wear when you’re expecting.

Maternity

1. Jersey Dresses and Tops: These should be staples in any mommy-to-be’s closet. They not only do they flatter your shape as you grow, but they come in a variety of different colors and prints. The LOFT Maternity has some great options.

2. A Great Pair of Jeans: Look for styles with spandex or Lycra for comfort and stretch. You can still wear your favorite skinnies while sporting your baby belly when you pair them with a longer tunic. I love Boden Maternity for both fitted and relaxed fits.

3. Easy Cotton Dresses: Cotton dresses are both comfy and chic! Wrap or empire styles give you an instant waist and high-light your belly bump at the same time. Check out Motherhood Maternity for my favorite go-to dresses.

4. The Right Bra: The right undergarments are always a must, but are especially important while your “girls” are growing. Be sure to get fitted every three months or so during your pregnancy to ensure comfort. Pea in the Pod makes several different styles for during and after the baby arrives.

5. Stylish Flats: Jessica Simpson may have claimed to have worn heels through her entire pregnancy, but for the rest of the world, flats are the most practical option for excepting mommies. Be sure to go shoe shopping at the beginning of the day, as your feet will swell easily. You can also in the comfort of your own home at Zappos.com!
