Red Carpet Watch: Critics Choice Awards

Here we go again! Another round of rd carpet do’s and don’ts to tide you over until, well, tomorrow. Unlike The People’s Choice Awards from the prior evening, The Critics Choice Awards fashion was a bit more reserved. Stars like Emily Blunt and Anne Hathaway hit it out of the park by opting for simple, yet stunning designs. Marion Cotillard also looked every bit of the fashion plate with her whimsical Zuhair Murad frock.

The misses of the night include Elle Fanning, who I give some leeway because she’s young and takes risks. Another flop was Amy Adams in an ill-fitted navy and cream number. I usually like everything she wears, but this time she fell flat.

Check out who made my best dressed list below.

My favorite of the night was Emily Blunt in a dreamy creamy Miu Miu with gold heels. I loved the slightly awkward length of the dress and the stunning neckline. Her newly blonde hair and red lips made the look even more perfect.

Marion Cotillard gets two photos because the back of this frilly moment is just too good to miss! For a gal that can pull off pretty much anything, I love how she took a risk with this playful dress by Zuhair Murad. The chic side bun and minimalistic makeup let the dress do all the talking.

Jennifer Lawrence’s got some flack for her black Prabal Gurung, but I liked it. The mixture of leather and silk made a statement and did amazing things for her body. The only thing I would have skipped were the earrings as they seemed a bit much with the design.

Ok, so I have to admit I had no idea who Kerry Bishe was until today. But after seeing her rock this killer long-sleeve Pamela Rolland gown last night, she may be my new favorite person. This dress hit all the right notes with its flawless draping and use of color.

Naomi Watts looked simple, yet elegant in a black Pucci sheath. The chiffon panel at the neck added a bit of mystery and her turquoise drop earrings proved to be the perfect accessory choice.

Style Copy Cat: Elizabeth Olsen

Elizabeth Olsen may have two pretty famous sisters (yeah, you may have heard of them), but ever since her movie debut in Martha Marcy May Marlene in 2011, she has made a name for herself and has proved she has some serious acting chops. Elizabeth has become known as quite the fashion plate on the indie red carpets as well.

Her style always seems effortless and oh so chic. She typically favors designers that offer unexpected silhouettes like Prada and Marni. On her days off, you can usually see her sporting funky hats, her round sunnies and vintage boots. Take a cue from this style-setter by keeping your color palette more muted, while paying close attention to fit and detailing.

Beauty Box: Vamp Lips

Dark lips have made a huge impression on both the runways and the red carpetĀ  this season. It also happens to be one of the easiest ways to look instantly chic! 1920′s darling Clara Bow may have been the one to start the trend, but modern-day starlets like Rooney Mara and Lilly Collins have brought it back.

Vamp lips compliment most all hair colors and look especially fresh on pale skin tones (yay me!). It’s important to keep the rest of your look fairly simple when wearing a bold lip. If you’re a brunette or redhead, try a bronze/brown shadow with lots of mascara. If you’re a blonde, go for a golden eye with a mulberry liner.

Looking for the best shades? My two favorite are MAC’s Lipstick in Dark Side and Armani’s Rouge d’Armani lipstick in 526.

Editorial Inspiration: Kate Moss for Mango 2012

Maybe it’s because I’ve always had a major girl crush on Ms. Moss or perhaps it’s the fitted blazers paired with men’s style trousers that made me swoon overĀ  Mango’s Winter 2012 collection. The Spanish retailer has consistently offered us fashion forward options at great prices and this season is no exception.

One of my favorite pieces is the long-sleeve sequin dress. The shape is just so sexy, yet completely sophisticated at the same time. I’m also a huge sucker for a great jacket, so I naturally gravitated toward the military inspired styles that are so on trend right now.

Chic for Cheap: Target + Neiman Marcus

There are some duos that are just made for each other. Think wine and cheese, kids and candy or coffee and a good book. But there are few pairings better than style on a budget. Target has given us many a successful collaboration, but this holiday season, they just may have outdone themselves.

Tomorrow marks the premiere of the much awaited launch of the Neiman Marcus for Target collection. Designers such as Diane von Furstenberg, Tory Burch and Rag and Bone have created one-of-a-kind gifts for the very special collaboration. From shot glasses to sweaters, yoga mats to ornaments, you are sure to find the perfect gift for everyone on your list. Don’t worry, we won’t tell them how much you saved!
