Red Carpet Watch: The 2013 Academy Awards

So, here we are. It’s the morning after the Academy Awards and oh, do we have lots to talk about! While Twitter is abuzz with Oscar hashtags and Jennifer Lawrence meems, I’m more interested in what the stars were wearing.

This year, the stars favored a muted color palette to the bold hues of year’s past. We saw a lot of whites, nudes and soft metallics on everyone from Charlize Theron to Jennifer Lawrence. The only star that opted for a bright color was Jennifer Aniston in a red Valentino gown.

There were some amazing fashion moments and then there were some tragic misses. Here’s my take on what was haute and what was not on last night’s Oscars red carpet.

85th Annual Academy Awards - ArrivalsJessica Chastain

I have to say that this is my favorite dress that Jessica has worn so far. She looked so chic and glamorous in this golden Armani gown. I also thought her makeup complimented the dress perfectly. Her hair is very “Old Hollywood” and her bold lip makes her skin look like a dream.

85th Annual Academy Awards - ArrivalsAmy Adams

Oh, Amy. She’s always a fashion winner in my book and this dreamy Oscar de la Renta gown is just one of the many reasons. I’m obsessed with the blue/grey color and the girly detailing on the bodice. Her blonde hair also looked great pulled pack into a french twist, which really showed off the neckline of the dress.

85th Annual Academy Awards - ArrivalsNaomi Watts

Naomi received some grief for this silver Armani sheath dress, but I thought she looked amazing! While others opted for the classic princess silhouette, she rocked a fitted gown with unique neckline. The metallic color looked stunning next to her skin and sparkled as she walked the red carpet. I don’t care what anyone says, I loved this look!

85th Annual Academy Awards - ArrivalsCharlize Theron

This was by far my favorite look of the night. Charlize could wear a paper bag and make it look like couture, but this structured Christian Dior is simply spectacular on her. I’m loving the peplum waist and interesting neckline. She looked streamlined,  modern and simply beautiful.

85th Annual Academy Awards - ArrivalsJennifer Aniston

Though I wasn’t a huge fan of the straight neckline, I really loved the red color of this Valentino gown. Jennifer chose to keep her accessories and hair style fairly simple, which I thought was a good choice. Some said the look was too casual for the Oscars, but I think there’s something to be said about simple elegance.

85th Annual Academy Awards - ArrivalsJennifer Lawrence

J. Law was the talk of the town last night. She tripped going up the stairs to receive the Best Actress award and then flipped off the press later in the evening, but I’m still a fan. She chose a flowing Christian Dior gown with silver accessories for the big night. I thought she looked young, yet sophisticated all at once.

Red Carpet Watch: The 2013 Grammy Awards

The Grammy’s are similar to the VMA’s or MTV Music Awards in that they allow the nominees and guests to be a little bit more advantageous in their style choices. However, this year’s Grammy Award fashions were much more subdued than red carpets past. Rihanna looked more demure than she’s looked in years. On the other hand, Jennifer Lopez, who was suffering from the Angelia Jolie high slit syndrome.

Take a peek at my favorite looks of the night and then click here to see my list of fashion misses.

The 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards - Red Carpet

Rihanna looks so amazing in this red Azzadine Alaia gown. She traded her typical R rated garb for a chic and classic PG version. I also loved her honey blonde hair color, but a side or blunt bang would have made the look perfect.

The 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards - Arrivals

I’m not sure who Taylor Swift’s new stylist is, but major kudos to that individual. Swift has been killing it on the red carpet lately! I thought she looked every bit of the songstress goddess in this white Grecian inspired gown by J. Mendal.

The 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards - Red Carpet

I’m still unsure of how Carly Rae Jepsen became famous, but she really looked great in this Roberto Cavalli silver gown. Tough it wasn’t the most adventurous look, it fit her well and the color did wonders for her skin tone.

The 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards - Red Carpet

I’m not quite sure why I liked Beyonce’s black and white outfit. Maybe because I love the idea of separates on the red carpet and it just seemed so unexpected from the queen of sex appeal. The one thing I would change would be the matching bracelets.

Red Carpet Watch: The Met Gala 2012

The Metropolitan Museum’s annual Costume Institute Gala is the ultimate red carpet event. This is the night when the world’s most celebrated celebrities, gorgeous models and talented designers come to show off their most over-the-top fashion moments for the world (and Anna Wintour, of course) to see. Designers are escorted by their muses for the evening, all dressed in their latest runway looks.

Unlike the Oscars or the even the Grammy’s, the Met Gala is all about making an unforgetable style statement. There were some hits, note Cate Blanchett in a black feathered Alexander McQueen (I mean, seriously gorge!). And there were some misses, cue Beyonce’s sheer mishap (I mean really people??).

At the end of the day, fashion is about having fun and dressing up. Here are just a few of my favorite looks from the evening.

Cate Blanchett, in Alexander McQueen with Van Cleef & Arpels jewels

Amy Adams, in Giambattista Valli Haute Couture, with Fred Leighton jewels

Ginnifer Goodwin, in Monique Lhuillier, with Brian Atwood shoes

Rooney Mara, in Givenchy Haute Couture

Hanneli Mustaparta, in Calvin Klein Collection

Kate Bosworth, in Prada, with Fred Leighton and Repossi jewels

January Jones, in Atelier Versace, with Cartier jewels

Red Carpet Watch: The 2012 Academy Awards

Last year, I was fortunate enough to be apart of E!’s Countdown to the Academy Awards segment and speak from the red carpet about what I would wear to an Oscar after party. I had an amazing time being able to be apart of the festivities. This year has been a whirl-wind of styling new and loyal clients and my wedding styling business has really taken off! Needless to say it was nice to be able to take a night off and simply enjoy the show.

The Oscars never seem to fail us when the rich and famous come out to play and honor their own. Highlights included the return of Billy Crystal, Sasha Baron Cohen showing up as his alter-ego and Angelina’s leg stealing everyone’s thunder. But enough about all of that, let’s get to the good stuff!

Here are a few of my favorite looks of the night:

Emma stone was my favorite look of the night. She always takes risks with her fashion choices on the red carpet and they always seem to pay off. I love the playful bow detail and the color that compliments her ivory skin. Michelle Williams was another favorite of the night in a crimson Louis Vuitton. Her hair looked fresh in her signature pixie cut and the silhouette gave a 1950′s feel.

I wasn’t as big of a fan of Gwyneth’s look as most people were. However, I did appreciate the modern feel she was going for in this white Tom Ford gown. also liked her relaxed up-do and of course her arms look flawless! Rooney Mara was one of those I was super excited to see walk the red carpet. Though her Gievenchy dress was not what I had expected, but she did look very glamorous and I loved her hair and red lip.

Jessica Chastain was one of my favorite beauty looks of the night. Her hair and makeup looked flawless and fresh. Her McQueen gown was a bit aging for my taste, but over all, she looked great. Kristin Wigg hit the mark again in a gold J. Mendel. The detailed bodice was the perfect compliment to the feathered skirt.

Navy blue is one of my favorite colors to see on the red carpet. Leslie Mann wore a stunning jeweled midnight blue Cavalli, which made her starberry locks look oh so chic! Tina Fey donned  a classic navy Herrera gown with black sash and bold earrings.

Red Carpet Watch: 2012 Golden Globes

This year’s Golden Globe fashions were not so much about one specific trend as much as it was about celebrating individualism. It was fitting because this year’s nominees were as unique and different as the characters they portrayed. Still, you could spot certain color trends that were consistent between the attendees. Take Kate Winslet and Claire Danes instance, looking demure and still fashion forward in black and white.

I also loved the statuesque Charlize Theron in nude Dior and the up-in-coming Jessica Chastain, in Givenchy Haute Couture. Young Hollywood was also out in full force making statements all their own. We had the aloof yet undeniably stunning Rooney Mara (on whom I have a slight girl crush) in a black Nina Ricci gown. Fashion Plate Emma Stone also made an entrance is a deep plum Lanvin.

Funny girl Zooey Deschanel and Indie star Evan Rachel Wood took ques from the peacock in emerald green and gold frocks. Bridesmaids star, Kristen Wiig looked surprising chic in 1970′s inspired Bill Blass and a new brunette do. I’m not usually a fan of Jessica Biel’s style choices, but this time she really got it right in a long-sleeve Elie Saab.
